Warner and Raiford fell in love with each other while loading kilns and working in the ceramic studio together at Brevard College in Western North Carolina. Both of them spent many summers as well at the Penland School of Arts and at Arrowmont refining their creative gifts. After graduating, Warner was a resident artist at The Odyssey Center for Ceramic Arts in Asheville, NC. Then Warner |
returned to Brevard to be with Raiford as she was finishing school. During this time he trained with master wood worker Thomas Kline honing his skills and passion of fine wood-working. Raiford was busy in the studio painting a series of large scaled ,dynamic, abstracted objects of nature representations. She sold out her senior show with these!!
After being accepted into graduate school at Clemson University, SC, Warner rasked for Raiford's hand in marraige and upon accepptance, were married in the fall of 2004. While he earned his MFA in ceramics, Raiford continued her artistic career at the Blue Ridge Arts Council in Seneca,SC as Educational Director.
After recieving his MFA from Clemson in Spring 2006, the couple returned to Brevard,NC where Warner taught ceramics and art history at Brevard College, and Raiford was in charge of art classes at the Boys and Girls Club of Brevard,NC.
In the spring of 2007, Warner accepted a position at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC as Assistant Professor of Art. While at Meredith, he revived the ceramics program and built a 140 cu inch cross draft kiln which had a front section for gas reduction, and a wood/salt/soda back atmospheric section.
The coulpes greatest work of art was brought into the world on January 30, 2008 at 7:40 am, when after days of natural labor, Raiford gave birth to Lucy Boone Hyde.
From the beggining Warner and Raiford have continued to push themselves through their love of art and each other. Please enjoy the artworks they have made individually and as a team.
